There is syntax

. Put There in the subject position,
and then postulate new information (subject S) that has not been discussed in the context so far.
(If you suddenly put new information as the subject, the listener may be surprised,
so you write There to pause and show that you are about to describe a new topic.)

There is a watch on the table.
is:V, a watch:S.
The word order of the there is construction is somewhat special
. V+S
or
V+S+C
(S=C in the translation)
V+S+C
with an adverb (where, when, etc.)

there (new information) and the (common knowledge) are contradictory and cannot be used together.
