Past tense
I finished my homework five minutes ago.If the verb action took place in the past,
add [ed] to the right of the verb (action). (finish -> finished)
Exceptions are noted at the bottom.
In the past tense, the focus is on a point in the past.
(In the present perfect tense, all points in time before the present.)

There are a few hundred or so, but you have to learn to conjugate irregular verbs (present perfect tense)
(In English conversation, if you don't know the past tense,
you can forcefully add "ed" to the end of a word and it will still be understood.)
Applications
How to convert from the original to the past tenseIf the last letter of the original form of a verb is e, add only d. (glance -> glanced)
If the last two letters of the verb are consonants
(other than a,i,u,e,o) + y, delete y and add ied. (fry→fried)
For vowels (a,i,u,e,o) + y, erase nothing and add ed (obey→obeyed)
. Some verbs are irregular: go→went, etc.
